On 19 January, Cameroon’s political stage shifted sharply. Alice Nkom—lawyer, dissident voice, and official spokesperson for the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FSNC)—announced a decision that reshapes the electoral landscape: the FSNC is boycotting the upcoming local elections.

Seven children, some as young as two years old, were among the 14 victims slaughtered when armed Anglophone separatists descended on the village of Gidado in Cameroon’s Northwest Region on 14 January.

Martinez Zogo—a prominent Cameroonian radio host known for denouncing corruption and influential figures—was abducted on 17 January 2023 and later found dead on 22 January. Three years on, his killing is now the subject of a military court trial in Yaoundé, where 17 detained defendants are accused in connection with the abduction, torture, and murder.
Cameroon Decoded 28 DECEMBER 2025 to 4 January 2026
President Paul Biya kept Cameroon waiting. He postponed the cabinet reshuffle again and gave no public timetable. This was after he said on 31 December that he would name a new government “in the coming days,” following his swearingin on 6 November.
